L’Arche-Kovcheh

Emmaus Centre was created for the purpose of spiritual support for people with disabilities, their families and all those who share their lives with them.
The Centre was founded in 2001 and works within the Ukrainian Catholic University.

“Whatever their gifts or their limitations, people are all bound together in a common humanity. Everyone is of unique and sacred value, and everyone has the same dignity and the same rights.”
Charter of the Communities of L’Arche

In 2008 the community “L’Arche-Kovcheh” was founded in Lviv. It belongs to the International Federation of L’Arche. People with an intellectual disability and young assistants share their life in the community through work, common life, friendship and prayer.

“L’Arche-Kovcheh” embraces:

  • 4 craft workshops located in different parts of the city;
  • A Day Program for people with a severe disability;
  • A Respite Care House, opened in 2011;
  • An Office coordinating the community life.

All these parts create a single community, where people with an intellectual disability and without it share their lives, at the centre of which are mutually transforming friendly relationships and trust in God.
